Benjamin Mauerberger was born and raised in Salzburg, Austria — the city of Mozart, the Salzburg Festival and one of the richest classical music traditions in the world. Growing up there meant that music was never a distant subject taught only in a classroom; it was part of daily life, heard in churches, concert halls, town squares and family homes. Benjamin began studying piano at an early age, and the discipline, curiosity and joy he discovered at the keyboard have stayed with him ever since.

The Austrian approach to music education he grew up with values a solid technical foundation, a deep respect for the classical repertoire and, above all, musical expression. Those values remain at the heart of how he plays and how he teaches today.

After moving to the United States, Benjamin settled in Washington, D.C., where he now runs his piano studio at 1731 New Hampshire Ave NW. As a piano teacher, he works with children, teens and adults of every level — from students who have never touched a keyboard to advanced players preparing for recitals, auditions and competitions. He offers private lessons, small group sessions and dedicated recital preparation, and he teaches in both English and German.

His teaching philosophy is simple: every student deserves lessons shaped around their own goals. For one student that may mean reading music confidently for the first time; for another it means polishing a Chopin nocturne for the stage. Benjamin combines careful technical guidance with a warm, encouraging atmosphere, so that practice becomes something students look forward to rather than a chore.

Career as a UX designer

Alongside his work as a pianist and piano teacher, Benjamin Mauerberger is a UX designer at a major telecommunications company in the United States. In that role he designs digital experiences used by large numbers of people, working at the intersection of research, empathy and clear visual structure.

The two careers inform each other more than one might expect. User experience design is about understanding people, removing friction and guiding someone step by step toward a goal. Great piano teaching works the same way. Benjamin brings that design mindset into the studio: lessons are clearly structured, progress is broken into achievable steps, and every exercise has a purpose the student understands.
